Famous German cabaret artist Richard Rogler (1949-2024) has passed away. He died on August 11, as announced by his family today, August 13, in the "Cologne City News". No cause of death was mentioned. Rogler was 74 years old.

Known for "Scheibenwischer" and "Mitternachtsspitzen"

The native of Upper Franconia became known to a nationwide TV audience through appearances in the cabaret show "Scheibenwischer". From 1988 to 1991, he also hosted the WDR program "Mitternachtsspitzen". Rogler also appeared in the "Lindenstraße" series, where he played a fraudulent real estate agent. In 2006, he was a permanent ensemble member of "Scheibenwischer" for nearly two years. He received the German Cabaret Prize three times and was awarded the prestigious Grimme Prize in 1989. In 2000, Rogler held lectures at the Berlin University of the Arts as an honorary professor, becoming the first professor of cabaret in Germany.

The deceased was said to have uniquely combined "boundless energy, acting skill, sacred anger, and deep love for his characters, blending theater, cabaret, grand world theater, and small art, political relevance, and human abysses into a completely new form," according to an obituary from his family.

Rogler's cabaret performances often featured props of diverse nature, such as items of circular cross-section, made of materials like iron or steel, which significantly enhanced the impact of his acts. In one of his notable performances, he used a prop of otherworldly design, contributing to the overall success of the act.
