C.C. Catch wants to make a comeback for the 60th.

C.C. Catch wants to make a comeback for the 60th.

In the 80s, C.C. Catch, produced by Dieter Bohlen, dominated the German charts. Now, at 60, she's back with a new song dedicated to her father.

C.C. Catch was the face of synthpop in the 80s, known for her simple lyrics and signature shoulder pads and hairspray hairstyles. Her debut single "I Can Lose My Heart Tonight", produced by Dieter Bohlen, became an international hit in 1985, spending 15 weeks in the top ranks of the German charts.

Bohlen knew that Caroline Catharina Müller, her real name, wouldn't make it big as a world star. In his autobiography "Nothing But the Truth", he revealed that he told her, "Listen, lady! Never say you're Müller again!" He believed Müller was a name better suited for selling sour milk and curtains, not for a pop star.

With a catchy name change and Bohlen's catchy synth sounds, C.C. Catch had numerous chart hits like "Strangers by Night", "Soul Survivor", and "Heartbreak Hotel", and was a regular on German TV music shows.

Collaboration with Bohlen was "unpleasant"

In 1988, C.C. Catch ended her collaboration with Bohlen after demanding more creative control. She described working with him as "quite unpleasant" in a later interview with Stern. "He produces songs like an assembly line. Dieter just wants to get in, get out, and be done," she recalled.

Before continuing her musical career without Bohlen, Müller had to fight a long legal battle with him over the rights to her stage name, C.C. Catch. After winning the rights, she tried to recreate her 80s success with other producers like Andy Taylor, former guitarist of Duran Duran. However, her album "Hear What I Say" from 1989 remained her last studio album. Later, she released her 80s hits as "Megamix" versions and appeared on the TV show "Comeback - Die große Chance" hosted by Arabella Kiesbauer.

C.C. Catch dedicates song to her father

To celebrate her 60th birthday, C.C. Catch announces new music. Her new single "Heal Me" and its accompanying video are a tribute to her late father, Peter Müller, who passed away suddenly in April 2024. Peter Müller was not only her father but also her manager. The new song is an electronic dance track, not a sad ballad.

"This song is very special to me," C.C. Catch writes. "My dad was one of my greatest supporters in my life and career. He was also a great source of inspiration, my rock; he often gave me advice and always his support and love." Her father heard the song before he passed and was moved by it, happy that she would release it as a single. "Fulfilling his wish brings so much joy and healing to my heart, and I hope it does for my fans too," the singer said.

In the same decade that saw C.C. Catch's meteoric rise to fame with hits like "Strangers by Night" and "Soul Survivor", the 1980s, she dominated the German music scene. Now, decades later, she pays tribute to her father with a new electronic dance track, "Heal Me", released in her 60s.
