Horror series - "Buffy" villain Camden Toy dies
Millions of TV viewers may not know his face, but they have certainly been creeped out by him at some point: The TV villain Camden Toy, known from the US horror series "Buffy - Under the Spell of Demons" (1997-2003), is dead.
As many US media outlets unanimously reported on Thursday, he died on Monday after a long illness at the age of 68. Toy was usually masked beyond recognition in his roles. He was usually cast as a demon or other diabolical being.
In the "Buffy" universe, the American appeared in various roles. He was always the powerful original vampire "Übervamp", who is one of the toughest opponents of the title heroine Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar).
Gellar never saw his real face either
However, he also played the nasty demon Gnarl, for example, who rips the skin off his stunned victims in order to eat them. Gnarl is regarded in "Buffy" fan circles as the most terrifying monster in the series. Lead actress Gellar later said in an interview that despite many scenes together, she had never seen Toy's real face.
Toy also made appearances in the "Buffy" spin-off "Angel - Slayer of Darkness" and later in series such as "Shameless" and "The Mentalist".
Among the expressions of grief on the Facebook page of the deceased is an entry by actor Doug Jones, who played the sinister villains "The Gentlemen" together with Toy on "Buffy": "This is bitter," he wrote. "To know Toy was to love him. We may have met in the guise of the terrifying Gentlemen, but that led to a deep friendship that lasted 24 years. It is rare to find a person who is so cheerful, smiling, smart, talented, chirpy and always ready for a hug," he continued. "A person who was good at listening with his heart. Approachable to everyone, including his many fans."
