"Buffy" star Camden Toy is dead
In the cult series "Buffy", Camden Toy repeatedly slipped into the roles of various demons. He was sometimes so heavily made up that some of his colleagues didn't know what he really looked like. At the age of 68, he has now succumbed to cancer.
The US actor Camden Toy is dead. The actor, who became world-famous for his various roles in the hit series "Buffy - Under the Spell of Demons", died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 68 on Monday evening at his home in California, according to media reports.
It was only at the weekend that his family announced on Facebook that Camden Toy was in a bad way. In a statement, they said that the cancer diagnosis had been made in February 2022 and that they had now unfortunately reached the end of the road.
"His condition has deteriorated greatly in the last two months and even tremendously in the last few days," his partner Bethany Henderson wrote in the corresponding post on December 8. It breaks her heart to see the love of her life disappear before her eyes. Toy had decided "for many reasons" not to disclose his illness beforehand. She apologized to her husband's fans for this.
Toy had achieved cult status thanks to his mostly heavily made-up performances. Early in his career, he specialized in the embodiment of monsters, demons, vampires and other terrifying creatures. In the hit series "Buffy - Under the Spell of Demons", he can also be seen again and again under various masks in different roles. For example, as the fan-favorite demon Gnarl or as one of the Gentlemen in the Emmy-nominated cult episode "Hush".
In an interview, lead actress Sarah Michelle Gellar once said that she didn't even know Toy's face for a long time, as he always appeared on set in heavy make-up. He made similar appearances in the later spin-off "Angel", as well as in other series such as "Shameless", "The Mentalist" and "Into the Dark". In total, he has appeared in more than 60 film and television productions. Toy came to film through his father, who also worked as an actor and make-up artist in Hollywood.

Despite his frequent appearances on TV as a demon or monster, many of Camden Toy's colleagues were unaware of his true appearance due to the heavy makeup used in his roles. The news of Toy's passing on cancer has left fans of "Buffy" and other shows saddened, as the talented actor will no longer be seen on Entertainment TV.
