More than twelve years have passed since Amy Winehouse died as a result of alcohol poisoning. There had previously been attempts to free her from her addiction. Now singer Bryan Adams also explains that he wanted to help his colleague at the time.

By his own admission, Bryan Adams was one of those who supported Amy Winehouse in her fight against drugs and alcohol before her death. To help her overcome her addiction, he took his colleague on a family vacation, the Canadian pop singer revealed in an interview with "The Sunday Times".

According to the interview, Winehouse traveled with Adams and his family to the Caribbean over the Christmas holidays in 2007. There he tried to help the then 24-year-old get sober, says the 64-year-old in an interview with the newspaper.

Adams, who also works as a photographer, had met the "Back to Black" performer at a photo shoot. They became friends, according to the musician. He had admired Winehouse's talent. "She wrote her own songs, had a unique voice and a great personality," he said several years ago on the British "Andrew Marr Show".

The infamous "Club 27"

When Winehouse was at his villa on Mustique, a private island in the Caribbean, he encouraged her to eat a vegan diet, Adams now says. Among other things, he served her carrot and beetroot juice. However, this did not go down well with Winehouse. "I tried to help her, but it had to come from within," explains Adams. "Was I able to make a difference? I don't know," he adds.

Winehouse, who celebrated her breakthrough in 2006, suffered from drug and alcohol problems for years and was therefore in treatment several times. On July 23, 2011, she was found dead in her home in the London borough of Camden. According to the investigation, she died of alcohol poisoning with more than 4 per mille in her blood.

Winehouse was only 27 years old, joining the infamous "Club 27" of stars who died at that age, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors singer Jim Morrison and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.
