Sly jab directed at Timberlake?

It's been a long time: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake used to be a couple.

Britney Spears shares a photo of a mixed drink online.

Here's the paraphrased text:

This image shows a cocktail, but it's the drama surrounding it that's causing a stir. Britney Spears posted it on her Instagram, not long after her ex, Justin Timberlake, was nabbed for a potential DUI. He's shown regret over the incident.

It's not just Timberlake's mugshot that's grabbing attention. The fact that he was arrested for suspected DUI on a Monday night, and the buzz persists three days later, certainly adds to the heat. Also fueling the fire is Spears' apparently provocative post.

She shared a picture of a cocktail glass, all decked out with a cherry and petals, on her Instagram. The caption read: "It's the little things you know." This could mean "It's the little things, you know." But it could also be read as "It's the little things, that one knows."

Whether Spears meant this as a dig at Timberlake or just another cryptic message she's known for, is unclear. For many of her fans, however, the message is clear. They see it as a dig at Timberlake, maybe a jibe at his recent stumble, or maybe even a reference to his drinking habits.

"Criminal" making a comeback?

Spears' fans are urging for mass streaming of her 2011 song "Criminal" to revive its chart position. They're using hashtags like "#criminal" and "#crymeariver" on social media.

Spears and Timberlake were in a relationship around the turn of the millennium. In his 2002 music video "Cry Me a River," Timberlake hinted years later that Spears had been unfaithful. She denies this. In her recent autobiography "The Woman in Me," Spears confesses that she was pregnant with Timberlake's child but had an abortion because he didn't want it.

Lawyer strikes back

Timberlake hasn't spoken publicly since his arrest. However, details about his state at the time emerged when he was stopped by a police patrol in New York. Court documents obtained by People Magazine described his eyes as "bloodshot and glassy," and his breath reeked of alcohol. He failed a sobriety test, contradicting his claim that he'd only had a Martini.

According to The Sun newspaper, Timberlake apologized to his team during a conference call. "He apologized for bringing such attention to the team. Everyone was relieved by his words," a source reportedly quoted. Timberlake is due in court on July 26 to address his DUI charge. On that day, he's scheduled to perform in Krakow, Poland, his first Europe show of the current world tour.

While Timberlake stays quiet to the public, his lawyer Edward Burke Jr. is fighting back. He told celebrity portal TMZ: "We look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations. He will have much to say at the right time."
