Bremen's mayor marries his "first love of youth"

At school, Andreas Bovenschulte met and fell in love with Kerstin Krüger. After graduation, they lost touch. 35 years later, sparks flew again. Now, Bremen's mayor and the environmental expert are tying the knot.

Bremen's mayor, Andreas Bovenschulte, and his partner, Kerstin Krüger, got married. The SPD politician and biologist exchanged vows at the town hall of the Hanseatic city. After the ceremony, friends, colleagues, and some Bremen residents greeted the newlyweds. The 58-year-old wore a royal blue suit with a light blue tie, while the bride wore a classic white dress.

They knew each other from their teenage years, attending Gymnasium Sarstedt in Hildesheim together. After graduation, they lost contact. Krüger was a professor of integrated plant protection, living and working in South Africa for many years. In an interview with "Bunte" magazine, Bovenschulte described Krüger as his "first teenage love." After more than 35 years, they reunited, as the SPD politician revealed in May 2023.

For Bovenschulte, who celebrates his 59th birthday on August 11, this is his second marriage. He was married to former state councilor Ulrike Hiller for over 20 years. They have two grown daughters together. The couple separated in 2021. "We still get along very well, everything is clear. We remain connected as parents and friends," Bovenschulte said in the "Bunte" interview.

Andreas Bovenschulte fondly reminisces about his first teenage love, Kerstin Krüger, who was a significant part of his love life. As Boveschulte and Krüger build a new life together, they prioritize spending quality time with their families, blending their love life and family dynamics.
