Bradley Cooper is ready for "Hangover 4"
Bradley Cooper, most recently successful with serious roles and directing work, is interested in returning to the "Hangover" comedies. He confesses that he would agree immediately out of love for his colleagues if a fourth part were to be made. But he sees a major obstacle to this.
It is now over ten years since the last part of the popular comedy series, "Hangover 3", was released in cinemas. Many of those involved in front of and behind the scenes have since moved on to other projects. In addition to his Marvel appearances as raccoon Rocket Raccoon, lead actor Bradley Cooper has increasingly taken on more serious roles in recent years. He has appeared in films such as Guillermo del Toro's "Nightmare Alley" (2021) and his own directorial work "A Star Is Born" from 2018 or "Maestro" about the famous conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990), which was released in cinemas at the beginning of December.
Despite all this, Cooper can probably also imagine a return to the rough and tumble world of "Hangover". As a guest on the podcast "The New Yorker Radio Hour", the 48-year-old revealed: "I would probably do 'Hangover 4' in a heartbeat, simply because I love Todd, Zach and Ed so much." By those mentioned, Cooper of course means his "Hangover 1-3" co-stars Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms as well as director Todd Phillips.
Will "Hangover 4" fail because of the director?
According to Cooper, the latter could also be the biggest hurdle for a sequel to the film series. Regarding the director of the "Hangover" trilogy, the mime added during his podcast appearance: "I don't think Todd will ever do it." The background to Cooper's statement may be that filmmaker Phillips scored a big hit in 2019 with the two Oscar-winning DC film 'Joker' - starring Joaquin Phoenix.
For the director, who once started his big Hollywood career with classic comedies such as "Old School" or "Starsky & Hutch", "Joker" also represented a certain change of direction in his artistic work. Phillips is currently working on the sequel "Joker: Folie à Deux", which is due to be released in cinemas in October 2024. It is doubtful whether the 52-year-old filmmaker will agree to do "Hangover 4" after that.
Bradley Cooper's love for his "Hangover" co-stars, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, makes him eager to join a potential "Hangover 4," but he believes director Todd Phillips' focus on other projects might pose a significant obstacle.
Hollywood's success stories often lead actors to diverse roles, and Bradley Cooper's transition from comedies like "Hangover" to more serious projects such as "Nightmare Alley" and his directorial debut with "A Star Is Born" showcases this evolution.
