BP stops oil deliveries due to attacks in the Red Sea
British energy giant BP is suspending its oil deliveries through the Red Sea for the time being due to the recent attacks on ships by Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The company spoke of a deteriorating security situation, as the BBC reported on Monday. "The safety of our employees and those working on our behalf is BP's priority," the Sky News channel quoted from a statement. Following the decision, global oil prices rose.
Previously, several major shipping companies had announced that they would avoid the sea route connecting the Red Sea to the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal for the time being. The route is important for global trade and the transportation of oil by sea.
