Book undertaking by Cathy Hummels gets halted by the publishing company.
Cathy Hummels and her sibling were working on a book about depression, and a publisher had already unveiled the book's cover. Unfortunately, the project's now on hold due to some commotion surrounding Hummels' brother's doctoral credentials. Hummels' lawyer, Stefan Ventroni, stated that the publication and her brother, Sebastian Fischer, have decided not to move forward with the project jointly. The Südwest-Verlag, on the other hand, through their lawyer Ralph Graef, mentioned that they were the ones to terminate the contract due to the lack of foundation for publication given the current circumstances.
Famous influencer Hummels, who had shared her depression struggles a few years back, had planned to publish a book titled "Out of the Shadows - Your Way Out of Depression" with her brother, a medical doctor. However, the cover released featured Fischer's name with a doctoral title, although in reality, he didn't hold one.
Following reports by "Bild" newspaper, the publisher initially took down the cover depicting the planned book publication. The Südwest-Verlag stated in early July that they had no indications until recently that could've raised doubts about Fischer's unfinished dissertation. "After conducting media research and an inquiry to Fischer, it was confirmed that he currently doesn't have a doctoral title," the publisher said. The cover was subsequently removed from their systems.
Hummels had also addressed her brother as a "Doctor" on Instagram. However, she clarified through a press release sent out by her lawyer in early July that it was not an intentional misrepresentation of facts. "I referred to my brother as 'Doctor' on Instagram in 2018, as I was under the widespread misconception that every doctor carries this title," she said. Adding, "I did not want to deceive anyone but simply recognized his profession." Hummels also mentioned, "For several people, including me, 'doctor' and 'medical doctor' have been used interchangeably as nothing more than a job title."
Despite the setbacks, Cathy Hummels and her brother still hope to release [The entertainment of sharing their experiences and insights in] a revised version of "Out of the Shadows - Your Way Out of Depression." In the meantime, Cathy continues to advocate for mental health awareness through her social media platforms.
