Blitzer Week starts in several German states
Nationwide, police will intensify traffic rule enforcement this week, focusing on accident-prone stretches. However, three federal states are not participating.
Motorists should brace for increased speed checks in several federal states by the weekend. According to ADAC, the focus will be on accident-prone sections and areas with heightened risk, such as schools. Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland are not participating in the action, ADAC reports.
The goal of the control week is to raise awareness among all road users about the dangers of traffic, a spokesperson for the North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Ministry said. Excessive speeds and inappropriate speeds, for example in heavy rain, remain a major cause of accidents. Police officers will also pay close attention to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The action is based on a European traffic police network that has coordinated this, according to the spokesperson. Unlike a similar action in April, there will not be a specific speed camera day, ADAC reports. The checks will be "distributed evenly throughout the week."
Police in Saxony-Anhalt also plan to intensify controls, where schools start again on Monday, as in Lower Saxony, Saxony, and Bremen. The Interior Ministry reports that focus actions are planned for the action week, aiming to increase safety. In recent months, intensified controls have already taken place over several days. Police officers pay particular attention to distractions in traffic, excessive speeds, or technical defects in vehicles.
Motor vehicles will be subjected to increased scrutiny during the traffic control week, with a focus on accident-prone areas. Regrettably, motor vehicles in Bavaria, Bremen, and Saarland will not be affected by these enhanced traffic rule enforcement efforts.
