Societal norms and values - Billie Eilish discusses encounters with ghosting in her life.
Billie Eilish, a popular singer from the US (age 22), has gone through the harrowing experience of being ghosted. This term comes from "ghost" in English, which means someone cuts off communication all of a sudden without informing the other party or even their awareness.
The "Therefore I Am" singer shared her frightening ghosting encounter on a BBC podcast called "Miss Me?" with British singer Lily Allen. It was someone she had been friends with for years. They had arranged to meet, but the person never showed up. She never heard from them again.
"I couldn't believe it," said the double Oscar winner. Later, she discovered the person was seen with someone else. "I really despise cowards," said Eilish. "And if I feel someone is a coward, it just infuriates me." Ghosting can sometimes be a result of someone's fear to express themselves.
Even celebrities are not immune to ghosting. Actress Drew Barrymore, known for her role in "Three for Charlie," confessed to People magazine in 2022 that she was a victim of this cold behavior.
