Billboard Awards: Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen clear the board
Pop superstar Taylor Swift ("Anti-Hero") and country singer Morgan Wallen ("Last Night") are the big winners at the Billboard Music Awards. Swift won ten prizes at the ceremony on Sunday evening (local time), including awards in the most important category "Top Artist", as most successful songwriter and as country artist.
Wallen even won eleven awards, including for the most successful album of the year for "One Thing at a Time", as male artist and as country singer. In addition to Swift and Wallen, SZA, Canadian rapper Drake and US country singer Luke Combs also competed in the most important "Top Artist" category.
The Billboard Awards have been presented annually by the trade magazine of the same name since 1990 and are largely based on chart positions in the USA. The awards were announced online.
The German Kim Petras was nominated in two of the 69 categories, but came away empty-handed. Petras, who was born in the Rhineland, lost out to Beyoncé with "Renaissance" in the Top Dance/Electronic Album category with her album "Feed the Beast". In the Top Collaboration category, she and British singer Sam Smith were beaten by the winner Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & 21 Savage ("Creepin") for "Unholy".
- Despite being nominated in two categories, German artist Kim Petras didn't win an award at the Billboard Music Awards, as Beyoncé took home the Top Dance/Electronic Album award for "Renaissance".
- Apart from Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen, who dominated the awards, SZA, Drake, and Luke Combs also competed in the highly coveted "Top Artist" category.
- Besides winning in the "Top Artist" category, Taylor Swift also secured prizes for her song "Anti-Hero" and her country artist status, making her the night's most successful artist with ten awards.
