Bill Kaulitz deeply moved by Ralf Schumacher's Coming-Out

Tokio Hotel frontman comments on Schumacher's "wonderful" coming out. Respecting Schumacher's background as an athlete, Kaulitz expresses his support.

Bill Kaulitz spoke about Ralf Schumacher's coming out in the latest episode of his podcast "Kaulitz Hills - Senf aus Hollywood". The 34-year-old singer and co-podcaster expressed the importance of revisiting the moving Instagram post of the former Formula 1 racer and his partner. The topic moved Bill "very, very, very much".

Bill finds Schumacher's public acknowledgment of his homosexuality "wonderful". Like Schumacher, the singer had also struggled with the secrecy surrounding his sexuality, as recently highlighted in the successful Netflix docu-series of the two twin brothers, "Kaulitz & Kaulitz".

"It takes a lot of courage"

Bill Kaulitz also explains why Schumacher's coming out particularly impressed him. "He comes from a very masculine, masculine-dominated sporting world, where that's actually a taboo topic and there aren't many out people," Bill says. "That's a very masculine, sometimes toxic masculine world, where it's just not okay to come out." Schumacher's bravery in taking this step is therefore all the more impressive.

"It takes a lot of courage, especially when you're at a certain age and have a very public life behind you, with a partner and a child," Bill adds. Furthermore, Bill appreciates the way Schumacher handled his coming-out: "He focused on his partner, his relationship, and his happiness, without justifying himself: 'That was wonderfully done, that was a great post, and it really made me happy', summarizes the singer."

Bill Kaulitz commended Ralf Schumacher for discussing his homosexuality in the entertainment sphere, given Schumacher's background in a predominantly masculine and homophobic sports environment. Reflecting on his own experiences, Kaulitz acknowledged the bravery required for public figures to come out, especially with established careers and families.
