Biden and Trump plan to square off in two televised debates.
Incumbent Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump are all set to face off in two televised debates before the presidential election in November. Trump has accepted Biden's challenge to these TV duels and claims that he is "ready and willing" to participate, as per a post on his online network Truth Social.
In a video, Biden had earlier expressed his desire to compete against Trump in the debates, saying, "Make me happy, buddy. I'll even do it twice." He further mentioned, "Then let's pick the dates, Donald. I hear you're off on Wednesdays." Biden was referring to the ongoing trial in New York about the cover-up of a hush money payment to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. Notably, in this historic trial against a former US president, the proceedings halt on Wednesdays.
Though Biden and Trump haven't officially been announced as their parties' presidential candidates for the November 5th election, their nominations are deemed as a mere formality. Trump has already won the Republican primaries by a significant margin, although they're not yet concluded. Biden, on the other hand, has no significant competition in the Democratic primaries, which are still ongoing.
The Republicans are set to nominate their presidential candidate during a party convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in mid-July, while the Democrats will follow by nominating their presidential candidate in Chicago, Illinois, in August. In normal circumstances, there are generally three televised debates between the presidential candidates of the two major US parties.
