The Belgian royal couple were officially received with military honors by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the start of their state visit to Berlin. King Philippe (63) and Queen Mathilde (50) came to Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the 67-year-old Federal President, on Tuesday for the traditional ritual with a military guard of honor. Steinmeier was accompanied by his wife Elke Büdenbender (61). The monarch and his wife listened to the anthems of both countries. The royal couple were also greeted at the palace by pupils from a Berlin school.

Philippe and Mathilde then signed the guest book. They arrived at BER Airport on Tuesday morning and are staying at the Hotel Adlon at the Brandenburg Gate during their stay in Berlin. The three-day trip to Germany ends on Thursday in Dresden. On Tuesday evening, the Federal President will host a state banquet in honor of the royal visit.
