Geographic Region - Because "Glaubst du" is the ideal EM tune for you.

Local indie pop band Provinz has been gaining attention, not only among soccer fans. This is primarily due to the Official ZDF Euro Cup song "Glaubst du" written by Vincent Waizenegger, Moritz Bösing, Robin Schmid, and Leon Sennewald. These talented musicians, who serve as keyboardist and drummer in the band, spoke to news agency spot on news about their connection to soccer ahead of the Euro Cup.

Why does "Glaubst du" make the ideal Euro Cup song?

Leon: The song was created for our friends and family at home. However, it shares a similar sentiment with home Euro Cup matches - a mix of anticipation and nostalgia. Thankfully, the ZDF also felt the same way and chose "Glaubst du" as the movie trailer theme.

How were you brought up with soccer?

Robin: Football has always been a significant part of our lives. Not just watching, but also playing with friends on the field. Ever since I was a child, there are memories that have stayed with me, not only football-related, but also the places those memories were made, who was there, and how I felt at the time.

In your lives today, what role does football play?

Robin: We simply enjoy discussing it. (laughs) It's amusing and takes our minds off the mundane routines. Although we don't watch every game, a small obsession will remain.

Are there any other potential Euro Cup songs this year? Do you have all-time favorite soccer songs?

Leon: Soho Bani re-recorded "Zeit, dass sich was dreht" with Herbert Grönemeyer. That has potential to be considered!

Do you think the Euro Cup 2024 could generate the same excitement in the country as the World Cup 2006? How has the overall mood been so far?

Robin: The 2006 World Cup was an extraordinary experience that cannot be compared to the current scenario. Nevertheless, I am convinced that this Euro Cup will create immense excitement! It's one of the few international events that emphasize sport and shared passion. The idea unifies people.

Where will you watch the Euro Cup games? In public or with friends, or from your couch?

Leon: Public viewing or with friends at home. The crucial aspect is to share the experience.

Will you get emotional during defeats or victories?

Leon: It's being passionate that makes the game thrilling. It's also simply a game.

What's your take on Germany's prospects of winning the title? How do you look at the team's lineup? Do you have a favorite player? Are there any players you miss?

Leon: The team has an evenly distributed roster with excellent players nearly everywhere on the field. While Germany might not be as well-equipped as France or England individually, that's just how football works.

Robin: Jamal Musiala is an extraordinary player whom I believe is underrated compared to Florian Wirtz. He's an absolute game-changer! Exceptionally skilled with the ball, quick, comprehends the game well, and has the ability to make something extraordinary! It's important that he maintains his belief in himself and feels supported.

Who will be the European Champion in 2024?

Leon: Whichever team wins in the final.

Robin: If it's not Germany, it could once again be England.

What does the rest of your summer look like, any plans? And how is the progress of a new album?

Leon: For us, the festival season has just started, so expect us to be traveling around and performing concerts for the next few months. In between, we're working on creating new music and watching the Euro Cup. (laughs)

The Provinz band, known for gaining attention among soccer fans, hails from a provincial area. The DFB team might find resonance with the lyrics of "Glaubst du," as it shares themes of anticipation and nostalgia. Eager soccer fans in Europe, tuning into ZDF for the EM 2024, may hear the song as the movie trailer theme.

Leon, from the Provinz band, admits that the anthem was initially crafted for their personal circle but resonated with the ZDF due to its shared sentiments with home Euro Cup matches. Soccer friends of the band had a significant influence on their passion for the sport, instilling lifelong memories and enjoyment of the game.

During the EM 2024, Leon and his companions plan to watch the games either in public or with friends, appreciating the shared experience. Despite geographical barriers, they remain hopeful that the Euro Cup will inspire similar excitement in Germany as the World Cup 2006 did.
