- Bearded Prince William thanks British Olympic team
This is how the British heir apparent has rarely been seen: Prince William (42) appears in a video with congratulations for the British Olympic team, sporting a beard. Team GB won 65 medals this year, placing seventh in the medal table.
"From all of us watching from home, congratulations to Team GB," says Princess **Kate (42) in a compilation of many short video messages published on the Kensington Palace X-account.
Then, a slightly disheveled and quite bearded man in an Adidas polo shirt speaks up beside her. It's the future British king. "Well done for everything you've achieved. You've been an inspiration to us all," says William.
Several other celebrities are also seen in the video, including US rapper Snoop Dogg and former English football national player David Beckham.
Beard reportedly caused dispute between William and Harry
William had previously shown a beard, but later shaved it off. His brother, Prince Harry (39), has been a devoted beard-wearer for some time. According to Harry's autobiography, the topic even caused a heated argument between the brothers.
William, according to Harry in his book "Spare" (English: "Reserve"), had ordered Harry to shave before his 2018 wedding. Harry refused, having already obtained permission from the late Queen Elizabeth II for the beard.
William was reportedly upset because he hadn't received this permission. At least, that's how Harry portrays it. Whether William will stick with the new look or if it's just a temporary summer whim remains unknown.
Duke and Duchess Kate, both looking different in their appearances, offer their congratulations to Team GB in a joint video message. Despite Prince William's previous disagreement with his brother Prince Harry over beards, his current beard is seen as a sign of support for Team GB's success.
