Coldplay - Band must pay former manager millions
Coldplay must pay their former manager Dave Holmes a seven-figure sum, after he sued the band for ten million pounds (approximately 12.9 million Euro) in 2023. This is reported by the British "Daily Mail" and cites an insider.
"Settlement cost millions"
The band, fronted by Chris Martin (47), had separated from Holmes in 2022 after two decades of collaboration, leading to a long legal dispute. In August 2023, Holmes announced that Coldplay owed him ten million pounds for unpaid commissions on their tenth and eleventh studio albums, both of which have yet to be released.
An insider told the "Daily Mail" that Chris Martin and the band were "happy to draw a line under it, but it came at a cost. The settlement cost them millions". A corresponding court document is also available to the Sun newspaper. In the documents from the London High Court, it is stated that the band agreed to pay the undisclosed seven-figure sum in May to avoid private details being made public in court.
Dave Holmes had been involved with Coldplay as their manager for 22 years and played a significant role in their success. He also counted as a close friend of frontman Chris Martin. Holmes took over the manager role from Phil Harvey, Coldplay's Creative Director, in 2001. The reason for Coldplay's separation from Holmes is unknown. Since 2022, Phil Harvey has once again managed the band.
Coldplay's success
Raising such a large sum should not have been too difficult for Coldplay. After all, the band is considered one of the most successful in the world, with over 174.4 million records sold. Since 2022, they have been on their "Music of the Spheres World Tour", which stops in Germany this summer. In July, Coldplay played three sold-out concerts in Düsseldorf, and in August they have three shows scheduled at the Munich Olympiastadion. Most recently, the band performed their fifth headlining set at the Glastonbury Festival in England.
