Authorities are searching for a man who reportedly opened fire on officers and kidnapped someone in Nebraska.
Officials are warning the public that Jason Davenport, a 42-year-old man from Council Bluffs, might be armed and could be injured. If anyone spots him, they're urged to call 911 right away. Reports state that Davenport is 6-foot-3 and weighs between 170 and 200 pounds. He was driving a gray Ford Fusion with Iowa plates when last seen.
He's been wanted by the authorities since escaping possible arrest last week, and now, the Nebraska State Patrol has issued an active warrant for his arrest. Omaha PD gave more details on the event that occurred on Thursday evening. Davenport is believed to have shot at officers who were trying to talk to him, and in the chaos, he managed to kidnap a woman and flee in his car. Neither the officers nor the troopers were hurt in the firefight.
The whereabouts of the woman taken hostage and her relationship to the suspect are still unknown. The police did not disclose anything about her. Troopers and police officers tried to follow the Ford Fusion, but they lost sight of it as it sped through Upland Park, and a search using helicopters from both NSP and OPD proved futile.
The story is ongoing, and further updates will be provided soon.
