At the DNC event, Mindy Kaling offered her thoughts on Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's divorce.
On Wednesdays, Kaling served as the emcee for the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. During her speech, the "Office" actress acknowledged Affleck, expressing affection towards their shared homeland, Massachusetts.
In a boisterous manner, she expressed, "I can't skip out without giving a holler to the fantastic delegation hailing from my native Massachusetts," as she stood at the podium. "Massachusetts, you're incredible!"
Upon mentioning the Boston Red Sox and Celtics' star Jayson Tatum, she added, "Hang in there, Ben Affleck."
Her statement most likely referred to the recent news of Lopez filing for divorce from Affleck in Los Angeles during the week.
The pair had been married for only two years, with Lopez's filing falling on the anniversary of their 2022 wedding ceremony in Riceboro, Georgia, following their impromptu Las Vegas nuptials a month prior.
Their initial engagement, over 20 years ago, followed their first encounter on the set of "Gigli," but they postponed and eventually canceled their 2003 wedding due to excessive media attention.
Soon after Kaling's reference to Affleck at the DNC, she exclaimed, "Dunkin' Donuts serves the best coffee on the planet," subtly hinting at the popular chain, originating from Massachusetts, and undoubtedly a tribute to Affleck's iconic and heavily memed Dunkin' Donuts commercials.
After expressing her love for Massachusetts, Kaling continued to pay tribute to the state by mentioning, "Dunkin' Donuts serves the best coffee on the planet," a nod to Affleck's famous commercials for the chain.
Recognizing the shared love for their homeland, Kaling also encouraged Affleck, saying, "Hang in there, Ben Affleck," amidst the news of his divorce.
