Authorities are offering short-term accommodation for some of these individuals in the northeastern region of Sylhet, a local official revealed to the German Press Agency yesterday. Flooding occurred due to the overflowing of major rivers, they added. If the rain lets up, the scenario could improve within a week, predicts hydrologist Dipak Ranjan Das from the Bangladesh Water Development Board.

It's estimated that over 7.2 million people were affected by flooding spanning a month during the 2022 monsoon.
