Netflix - Another spin-off of the hit series "Wednesday" with a new "Addams Family" character is being considered
Shortly after its release in November 2022, "Wednesday" Wednesday became a ratings hit on Netflix. With over 1.2 billion hours streamed, the "Addams Family" spin-off is the third most successful Netflix original series of all time. The creators around star producer Tim Burton managed to create a convincing twist around Addams' daughter Wednesday in the form of a heart-warming coming-of-age story with mystery and fantasy elements, including a successful set and costume design in a dark setting. So it's no wonder that Netflix is considering another spin-off about the famous family, as reported by Variety .
However, the potential spin-off is not supposed to revolve around Wednesday, but another member of the Addams family. The focus of the planned sequel would be Wednesday's uncle Fester, who is played by comedian Fred Armisen in the hit series. Armisen is also set to play the leading role in the possible spin-off. A great opportunity for the 57-year-old, his casting came as a surprise at the start of the original series in 2022, as Armisen had previously mainly appeared in the US late-night show "Saturday Night Live". Armisen's role in the Netflix hit series then made him known to a global audience overnight last year.
'Wednesday' spin-off: this popular character will be the subject
In the Netflix series, Fester is Gomez Addams' brother and a close confidant of Wednesday, who even sees him as a role model. In the original films from the nineties, he is one of the most popular characters in the Addams family and is played by Jackie Coogan. Here he suddenly reappears after years of disappearance - among other things, he is said to have been lost in the Bermuda Triangle.
Further details about the spin-off of "Wednesday" are not yet known, especially in terms of planning. It is difficult to coordinate possible filming of the spin-off with the "Wednesday" filming schedule, as other well-known characters from the hit series would have to play a role in the spin-off.
However, the series creators are currently clearly focused on filming the second season of "Wednesday", in which the eponymous protagonist has to face all kinds of spooky and magical challenges at "Nevermore Academy" - a school for students with special abilities. Unlike the first season, the sequel is set to be much more serious and prioritize creepiness and horror, as lead actress Jenna Ortega revealed back in the summer. After a few delays, filming for the sequel to the original series is set to take place in Ireland in spring next year. Whether and when a film adaptation of the planned prequel could take place against this backdrop is therefore still up in the air.

The potential spin-off series from Netflix, based on the success of "Wednesday," will instead focus on another Addams family member. This time, the series will explore the life of Wednesday's uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen, who gained widespread fame from his role in the original Netflix series. With Armisen set to star, this new series is an exciting opportunity to delve deeper into the Addams family's intriguing world, following in the footsteps of the series of successes that Tim Burton has overseen for Netflix.
