The Dutch airline, KLM, provided a brief update which stated that the incident happened as the plane was being readied for departure. No further details about the victim's identity have been shared by the airline.
The Netherlands border police, who are tasked with ensuring security at this major airport, reported that disembarkation had been ordered for the plane. The police are currently conducting a probe into the event. Some passengers were reportedly present when the gruesome occurrence took place and have been provided support by chaplains.
The airport management disclosed the news on Twitter with the message "A terrible event has occurred where someone ended up in the engine of an airplane. Our sympathies go out to the family of the deceased and we are providing for the well-being of the passengers and coworkers who witnessed this accident. The Military Police is leading the investigation."
Infrastructure Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Harbers, expressed shock at the incident in a tweet, empathizing with the affected parties. "My thoughts go out to the family of the victim and the witnesses of the accident," stated the minister.
As per Dutch sources, the plane in question is an Embraer-built short-range aircraft used by the KLM subsidiary Cityhopper. These planes can hold up to 132 passengers. At present, an accurate count of the number of people on board is unknown. The Radio station NOS shared a photo showing fire engines and ambulances gathered at the boarding gate.

Despite the ongoing investigation, international travelers were advised to avoid the affected terminal at Amsterdam's International Airport, where the incident occurred. The Netherlands' aviation authority has announced plans to review safety protocols at all Dutch airports following this tragic occurrence aboard an Airbus operated by KLM's Cityhopper fleet.
