An ESC legend makes the start

The ninth season of "The Masked Singer" starts with mysterious new additions. Until the show begins, no one knows which costumes and masks will be included. After a three-hour plush party, an ESC legend provides the first format unveiling.

Boldly billed as the "most exciting and secret" format season ever, the ninth "The Masked Singer" installment drops a bombshell the day before it starts. The unmasking of the circus director will only send the most die-hard show fans into ecstasy (presenter Matthias Opdenhövel was under the mask). But it's enough to generate a little extra attention. Speaking of attention: the news of the change behind the podium also caused a stir in the run-up to the show. Instead of Rea Garvey, Alvaro Soler will now be listening to the never-ending chatter of format veteran Ruth Moschner.

Together with "star guest" Jenke von Wilmsdorff, the aim is to bring light into the darkness as quickly as possible. The only problem is that, unlike in previous seasons, this time even the masks and costumes have been kept secret. But now the time has finally come. Circus director and presenter Matthias Opdenhövel wields the baton with his usual gallantry - and then the show begins. While Jenke von Wilmsdorff and his colleague Alvaro Soler present themselves in everyday outfits, eye-catcher Ruth Moschner applies to be the unofficial replacement candidate in a colorful Michelin kimono.

The ice princess makes the start

The atmosphere in the studio is great. Even before the first costumed celebrity enters the stage, the audience is already on their feet applauding. Then Matthias Opdenhövel lets all the present format cats out of the bag in ten-minute intervals. The ice princess makes the start. Framed in an oversized snow globe, the wintry glittering apparition warbles rather shakily and childishly towards the audience. The fire extinguisher also has problems with the microphone. But that doesn't bother the audience at all. What counts here is the sporting idea and, of course, the visual appearance.

The mustang gallops onto the stage with a flowing mane and sporty thighs. The flightless kiwi aims high. With a highly dramatic vibrato in his luggage, the fluffy little bird gives the visibly confused Jenke some abstruse thoughts: "How many of the Bee Gees are actually still alive?" asks the man of a thousand experiments. Not only Jenke, but also Ruth and Alvaro can't find a way out of the labyrinth of guesswork. Barry Gibb, Sylvie Meiss, Lena Gehrke, Gitte Hænning: the names of possible celebrities who could be hiding under the bizarre costumes give rise to new trains of thought every second.

Klaus Claus even has a pinch of soul on his tongue

The unmasked Katja Ebstein.

After a lot of third-league singing and a good dose of advertising, the second group of candidates pushes into the limelight. They include the dwarfish half-brother of Santa Claus (Klaus Claus) and a one-eyed cuddly monster called Lulatsch. Finally, the singing gets going. Klaus Claus even has a pinch of soul on his tongue. A colorful two-horned animal sends greetings to all friends of the okapi. The final highlight is the troll, a green stone creature with a very high, almost operetta-like timbre.

Now everyone is eager to see whose mask will fall first. One by one, Matthias Opdenhövel waves one plush creature after another into the second live show next Sunday. At some point, only the okapi is left standing alone on the stage. Very few viewers have called for the colorful hoofed animal from Africa. So then: mask off! Seconds later, ESC legend Katja Ebstein smiles into the camera. Gitte Hænning my ass ... But never mind: the first unveiling is complete. Eight more will follow. We can't wait to see who and what else will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The ninth season of "The Masked Singer" promises to be the most thrilling yet, with TV entertainment at its peak. With an ESC legend set to provide the first unveiling, viewers are eagerly anticipating the mysterious new additions and hidden identities behind the masks.

As the show continues, fans of TV entertainment will be glued to their screens, hoping to uncover the true identities beneath the colorful costumes, including the enchanting ice princess and the charming half-brother of Santa Claus.
