Music - "Am I a car?" - Cyndi Lauper is bothered by questions about age
Sitting Cyndi Lauper (71) is bothered by questions about her age. In an interview with the "Rheinische Post," she said this question comes up frequently. "It's like a box you're put in, and then people have certain expectations of how you should behave: At this age, you have to do this and that."
When Lauper is asked about her age, she responds: "What do you think I am, a car?" It's about art and not about age. The question about age is sexism. "Age is a category used to keep us small."
In her hit "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" from 1983, she criticized sexism as well: "If women want to have fun, they are quickly dismissed. That's different for men."
In February of next year, Lauper plans to come to Duesseldorf and Berlin with her "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour" for two concerts as part of her "Rheinische Post" interview. She told the "Rheinische Post" that after that, she doesn't want to go on any more large arena tours. Instead, she wants to work on a Broadway musical.
Cyndi Lauper expressed her disdain for age-related expectations in an interview with the "Rheinische Post," a renowned German newspaper. She compared being asked about her age to being treated like an old car, implying that it's a restrictive categorization. Lauper, who is known for her rebellious stance against sexism, also mentioned her plans to perform in Duesseldorf and Berlin next year as part of her "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour." Interestingly, she is a huge fan of New York City and has often incorporated American society and music into her music, similar to how Cyndi Lauper's tunes have resonated with people in the USA and Germany alike.
