Almost all of Ukraine experiences an air alert due to widespread drone attacks.

Russia is once again launching large-scale drone attacks on Ukraine at night. The Ukrainian Air Force disclosed that several cities affected include Kiev, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, and Odessa. Explosions were reportedly heard in various areas. Earlier, an air raid alert had been issued across large parts of the country. At this time, there is no information on any damage or casualties.

02:20: Civilians Shelled in Kharkiv RegionAccording to Ukrainian sources, civilians were shot at during the night in two towns in the Kharkiv region's north-east. The Ukrainian public prosecutor's office declared that the Russian airstrike on a residential area in the regional capital Kharkiv may be considered a potential war crime. Injuries were sustained by six people, including three young individuals. Moscow denies deliberately targeting civilians. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, thousands of people have been killed and injured.

01:04: Pistorius Requests Almost Four Billion More for KievGerman media reports indicate that the German government intends to significantly increase military aid for Ukraine this year. The Federal Ministry of Defense has thus announced an additional need for 3.8 billion euros for military support. So far this year, the coalition government has allocated 7.1 billion euros for military aid. The extra-budgetary spending requires parliamentary approval in June. Christian Lindner's Ministry of Finance has signaled its support.

00:05: Ukrainian General Staff Records 77 BattlesThe Ukrainian General Staff reported 77 combat operations within a 24-hour period in their evening report. Of these, seven are ongoing. "The Russian troops are trying to improve their tactical position," it says on the General Staff's Telegram channel. The Ukrainian military has conducted four attacks to dislodge the Russians from occupied positions, they continue.

22:25: Ukrainian Aviation Hero Dies During Combat MissionLieutenant Colonel Denys Vasyliuk, a recipient of the "Order of Valor," an award for individual bravery and heroism, has died during a combat mission. The 831st Tactical Aviation Brigade, where the experienced pilot served, made the annoucement on Facebook. He served as chief of staff of the brigade and deputy commander of an aviation squadron. The unit has announced that Vasyliuk was killed "recently" during a combat mission but no further details have been released. The Ukrainian Air Force has yet to comment on Vasyliuk's death.

21:57: Putin in Cannes: Polish Filmmaker Shows Biopic with AIPutin is depicted as dying at the end in the biopic about Russian President Vladimir Putin, shown at the Cannes Film Festival. "We were supposed to have a happy ending," says filmmaker Patryk Vega, who presented his film about Putin. "I called Putin and asked if he wanted to participate... - I was joking," quips the Polish filmmaker, who has mainly made gangster films, with a wide grin. Not being able to secure Putin's presence, Vega used AI to create Putin's character as a deepfake.

At first, he planned to create his film character using real footage of Putin. However, the quality was not adequate for the big screen. "AI needs to be trained. It requires 20,000 high-resolution images to function," explains the filmmaker. Instead, he developed a new technology that uses AI to create a face of a real actor with the same stature as Putin. "It's the first film to use this technology," says Vega. The AI-generated Putin is depicted as we know him, in his distinct poses and at his grand desks, but also playing the piano and wearing incontinence pads in his hospital bed.

21:35: Foreign Minister Wu: Taiwan's Future Depends on the War in Ukraine"If Russia can do this to Ukraine, China could do the same to Taiwan," according to Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu in an interview with the Kyiv Independent. The beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine served as a wake-up call for Taiwan, explains Wu, the island's top diplomat. If Kiev is defeated, Taiwan could become the next conflict zone. After two years, he believes that the future of the island is directly linked to the war in Ukraine. If Russia triumphs in Ukraine, officials from every faction fear that Beijing will seek to "reunify" the two Chinas by force, he said.
