Alleged Russian spy detained in Romania.

A person from Romania is being held after allegedly spying for Russia. The news was shared by the country's public prosecutor's office. This individual had been taking pictures of military installations and movements of troops and military equipment from the Romanian army and other NATO nations along the Romanian border near Tulcea since 2022, then sending this information to the Russian embassy in Bucharest.

A judge has instructed that the Romanian person be detained for an initial 30 days.

The inquiry was handled by the special department of the Romanian public prosecutor's office, DIICOT, which is focused on organized crime and terrorism, as well as the domestic intelligence service SRI and the intelligence agency of a NATO and EU country. Several pieces of evidence were unearthed during searches of the person's home, according to DIICOT.

Tulcea can be found in the Danube Delta, about 7.5 kilometers away from the Ukrainian border when measured by a crow's flight. This area has connections to Ukraine, including via the Danube River.
