- All three concerts in Vienna canceled
Shock news for Vienna Swifties: Pop star Taylor Swift (34) was supposed to perform three concerts in the Austrian capital between August 8 and 10, but the shows have now been canceled. The reason appears to be a planned terrorist attack. The promoter, Barracuda Music, announced this on Wednesday evening (7 August).
In an Instagram statement, it says: "Due to confirmation by government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three planned shows for the safety of all." Swift's management also shared the statement in their Instagram story.
Two arrests on suspicion of terrorism
As reported by ORF, among others, there were arrests in Lower Austria earlier in the day. Two people, including a 19-year-old, were arrested on suspicion of planning attacks on events in the Vienna area. Authorities had initially announced enhanced security measures for the three Swift concerts.
According to the newspaper "Der Standard", there were concrete preparations for a terrorist attack - with a focus on the Taylor Swift concerts, which were scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Concerts unlikely to be rescheduled
Taylor Swift herself has not yet commented on the cancellation of her three concerts. These were to be her last three shows on the European mainland before she concludes the European leg of her "Eras Tour" with five concerts in London.
The concerts in Vienna are unlikely to be rescheduled. As Barracuda Music writes, all tickets will be automatically refunded within the next ten working days.
Instagram can be a powerful tool for sharing important information, as demonstrated by Barracuda Music's announcement about the cancellation of Taylor Swift's concerts due to a suspected terrorist threat. Swift's management also shared this message on their Instagram story, helping to keep her followers informed.
