Due to a comment from Tenacious D band member Kyle Gass about the assassination attempt on US Presidential candidate Donald Trump, Jack Black has cancelled the ongoing tour of their band.
Trump Comment: Jack Black Halts Tenacious D Tour
During a performance of the duo in Sydney, Australia on Sunday, Black had asked Gass to make a wish. In response, Gass said, "Please Trump don't miss it next time." Trump had been injured at the ear during an attack over the weekend at a campaign rally in the US state of Pennsylvania. A shooter had opened fire and killed a spectator.
Gass' statement caused quite a stir and was sharply criticized by many. "I was taken aback by what was said at the show on Sunday," wrote Black on Instagram. "I would never condone hateful language or political violence in any form." Gass apologized via Instagram: The statement was "completely inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake."
Tenacious D was founded by Black, who also enjoys success as an actor and comedian, and Gass at the end of the 90s. The band had originally planned to perform in Australia and New Zealand for the entire month of July on their current tour, with tour dates in the US announced for the fall.
After the backlash from Gass' comment about Donald Trump, Jack Black expressed his disappointment on Instagram. "Determined D" fans were left disappointed as Jack Black cancelled the Tenacious D tour due to Kyle Gass' remark. Despite apologizing on Instagram, the incident cost the duo several tour stops in Australia and the US.
