"General Hospital" star Doug Sheehan - Actor dies at the age of 75

US-actor Doug Sheehan (1949-2024) passed away. For his performance in the US series "General Hospital" (since 1963), he received a Daytime Emmy nomination. The California native actor was 75 years old.

According to People-Magazine, Kane Funeral Home in the US state of Wyoming announced that the actor "peacefully passed away at home on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, in the presence of his beloved wife [Cate Albert]". The statement further reads: "The funeral services are not yet completed." They were "trusted with the necessary preparations". No cause of death was given.

Debut in hit series "Three Angels for Charlie"

Doug Sheehan made his professional debut in 1978 in the television series "Three Angels for Charlie" (1976-1981). His breakthrough, however, came in 1979 with the role of attorney Joe Kelly in the popular soap opera "General Hospital". He played this role until 1982 and received a Daytime Emmy nomination in the category "Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Drama Series" for his performance in the year of his departure.

In 1983, he was part of the "Dallas" spin-off "Knots Landing" in the role of reporter Ben Gibson and second husband of Valene Ewing (Joan Van Ark, 81). After the end of the series in 1988, he embodied the role of stockbroker Brian Harper in the NBC sitcom "Day by Day", which was aired for two seasons and featured Linda Kelsey (77) and Christopher Daniel Barnes (51) among others. Among Sheehan's other television appearances were roles in the series "MacGyver", "Diagnosis Murder", "Columbo", "Cheers" and "Clueless".

His last appearances in front of the camera were a guest role in "What I Like About You" with Amanda Bynes (38) and Jennie Garth (52) and in "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" with Melissa Joan Hart (48). Both in 2003.
