Accusation of Sexual Assault Levied Against Musician Garth Brooks
Famous Country Singer Garth Brooks Allegedly Assaulted by Former Employee; Denies Claims, Files Suit
Country music superstar Garth Brooks is under scrutiny for allegedly sexually assaulting an ex-employee, who served as his makeup artist and hairstylist for years. A lawsuit was filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, the accuser remaining anonymous, dubbed "Jane Doe", to safeguard her privacy. The claimant asserts that the abusive incident took place in 2019 in a Los Angeles hotel. According to British media outlet Sky News, Jane Doe traveled to LA with Brooks on his private jet and claimed he booked a suite where she was reportedly assaulted, and expected her to style his hair and makeup afterward.
Attorney Douglas H. Wigdor praised his client for her guts in bringing charges against the music star.
Brooks' Counterattack: "Baseless Accusations"
Before the lawsuit, Brooks filed an antecedent lawsuit against the accuser residing in Mississippi in September. According to the lawsuit, Brooks accuses the accuser of attempted extortion and defamation, alleging that she requested millions in compensation to refrain from filing a lawsuit.
Thursday evening, Brooks issued a statement to People magazine, denying the accusations overall. "For the past two months, I've faced a series of threats, falsehoods, and disheartening stories about my future if I didn't pay millions to remain silent," Brooks stated. "It prompted a sense of being under the gun's threat."
He refused to acknowledge guilt. "No matter the amount, giving hush money still equates to acceptance of heinous acts that no human should inflict upon another," his statement continued. "We filed a lawsuit against her close to a month ago to tackle extortion and defamation. In the lawsuit, we chose to remain unnamed, to safeguard families on both sides." Brooks is only known as John Doe in the lawsuit.
Gaining mainstream fame in the 90s, Brooks showcased a unique blend of country music with pop and rock elements. Notable albums under his belt involve "Ropin' The Wind" and "The Chase". Regarded as one of the most successful American music artists, Brooks married fellow country music star Trisha Yearwood in 2005, and they share three children together.
The entertainment industry has been rocked by the allegations against Garth Brooks, with the 'The entertainment' industry notably watching the ongoing legal battle carefully.
In light of the accusations, Brooks' recent concerts and performances have seen an increased security presence, ensuring 'The entertainment' for his fans remains undisturbed.
