Collisions or Mishaps - A venue in Mallorca lacked the required license to run its terrace.

The owners of a restaurant in Mallorca's Ballermann area had no legal permission to operate their balcony terrace, as revealed by authorities. A tragic accident occurred there, leading to the death of four individuals, including two Germans. Authorities confirmed that the use of the Medusa Beach Club's first floor was unlawful. Palma's Mayor, Jaime Martínez, informed journalists about the preliminary findings. Apart from the dead, there were several injured.

The town hall will share these results with the police and the prosecutor and may serve as a co-defendant in a potential court case, disclosed Martínez. The mayor emphasized, "Laws exist to be followed. You can't conduct unauthorized construction work or host events without permission."

From the initial investigation, it was observed that the excess weight of the unauthorized and non-traffickable terrace caused it to collapse. "We assume that there were 21 people on the first floor when the incident transpired," mentioned Martínez. Of these, twelve Dutch tourists were reported to have shifted tables to the terrace prior to the collapse, which possibly contributed to the mishap.

Long prior to the collapse, a proceeding against the establishment was set in motion owing to some renovation work performed despite denial of permission. Regarding the matter of liability, Martinez stated, "It's challenging for us to regulate the 5,000 restaurants and bars in the city." He declared that stricter controls would be put in place during the summer, particularly at the beach. The town hall has ten inspectors at its disposal for this purpose.

From the 14 injured, who were hospitalized after the incident, the Dutch nationals constituted the majority, and three Germans were among them. The mayor updated, "One person is still in the hospital, but at this point, they are on a regular ward."
