A tow truck driver has lost his life after crashing into the scene of a previous collision.

To the east of Saxony-Anhalt, an initial mishap strikes the A9 with minor harm to individuals. Security is set up, and the police and towing team are present. However, a truck plows into the mishap. One person perishes, while the trucker and a law enforcement officer receive critical hurts.

A lorry crashed into a restricted accident location on the Autobahn 9 in eastern Saxony-Anhalt - someone has passed away. The 43-year-old truck driver and a 26-year-old police officer, who was working the accident scene, were seriously injured, per authorities. The deceased was a towing service driver that was present following the primary incident.

According to police, the man's cause of death is still unknown. Reportedly, there was a mishap on the opposite side of the A9 in the direction of Munich near Dessau-Süd and Thurland earlier on Sunday night. A law enforcement officer was slightly hurt. A police car was at the mishap, overseeing the cleanup process. The area was closed off, and a tow vehicle was also there to clear the accident vehicle.

Per police, the truck struck the law enforcement vehicle at about 11 p.m. and pushed it away. The truck further collided with the accident vehicle and subsequently hit the towing vehicle. The spokesperson mentions that the 26-year-old cop was trapped inside the police car and was freed by the fire brigade. Consequently, the highway was fully barred for around two hours. The damages to property in the second mishap are valued at roughly 200,000 euros.

In the wake of the crash, Saxony-Anhalt's Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang from the CDU highlighted that the tow truck driver and the policewoman were present to assist other crash victims. "Trucks, in particular, pose added hazard potential due to their size and weight." The state police and the Ministry of the Interior thus uphold the notion of mandating the implementation of crash prevention assistants.
