Apparently, at around 11 p.m., the truck barreled into the patrol car, shoving it aside. It then crashed into the accident vehicle and pushed it onto the tow truck. The 26-year-old policewoman was trapped within the police car and had to be freed by the fire brigade. The highway had to be closed for around two hours due to the consequences of the second accident. The damage caused to the property is estimated to be approximately 200,000 euros by officials.

After the accident, Saxony-Anhalt's Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) stressed that the deceased tow truck driver and policewoman were both there to aid individuals affected by the original crash. "Trucks pose a significantly higher risk as they're much larger and heavier. Hence, the state police and the Ministry of the Interior back the concept of making emergency braking assistants compulsory."
