Tauentzien Street - A passenger has died following a high-speed collision in Berlin.
Following a severe car crash in Berlin's Tauentzienstraße on Wednesday night, a second passenger has passed away. The 27-year-old succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, as authorities announced on Friday morning. The inquiry into the incident in Charlottenburg is reportedly still forthcoming.
At the scene of the accident, an 18-year-old had already lost their life. Alongside the 27-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 25-year-old were transported to the hospital with severe injuries.
The quartet were speeding along Tauentzienstraße close to Ku'damm in their vehicle. The identity of the driver was initially uncertain. Police have referred to it as a "race." The car was allegedly driving at a dangerous speed, lost control, and impacted a concrete wall. The car flipped around 180 degrees and burst into flames. Witnesses started putting out the fire.
Two emergency services personnel experienced smoke inhalation and were rushed to the hospital. According to the fire department on platform X, one person managed to free themselves, gravely injured, from the flaming car. Two individuals were trapped in the crashed vehicle and were eventually freed. Five first aiders sustained light injuries and were treated on the spot.
