A London woman was attacked by her own dogs.

Starting February 1st, it's now illegal to own XL bully dogs in England without a special license. One resident in east London had this license for her two XL bullies. Unfortunately, these dogs ended up killing her in her home. Despite neighbors making an emergency call, it came too late to save her.

A woman in London was brutally attacked and killed by her own dogs – both of the XL bully breed. These dogs have been prohibited in England since February 1st. Armed officials sealed off the house and seized the animals, as reported by BBC and Sky News. The victim was in her fifties and passed away at the crime scene. Through blood-curdling barks, neighbors contacted emergency services. However, paramedics could only try to bring her back to life in her front garden before declaring her dead. The dogs were confined to a room in the house and had not left the property while the tragedy unfolded, according to Sky News.

Since February 1st, owning XL bully dogs comes with additional requirements in England and Wales. Owners must confine their dogs with muzzles, neuter them, and get them microchipped. They can then only walk them on a lead in public areas. It's been noted that the woman in this tragic event had a license for her two dogs.

On the rise: Dog attacks

Before the law change, there was a notable spike in dog attacks in the UK. According to the ONS statistics agency, 16 people were killed in 2023. Multiple incidents have already occurred in 2023. Just a week ago, a 49-year-old woman and her 30-year-old son were sentenced to prison after their XL bully seriously injured an 8-year-old boy. In early February, shortly after the ban took effect, a 68-year-old woman was killed by a dog while visiting her grandson.

XL Bullies, or American Bullies, are bred in the United States and thought to be a mix of American Staffordshire Terriers, Pit Bull Terriers, and Bulldogs. They're also considered a risky breed in Germany, where owners must have a permit.
