A former associate of Selenskyj is under suspicion for acts of corruption.

Zelenskyi, the president of Ukraine, began his term with a commitment to combat the rampant corruption across his nation. Unsurprisingly, one of his former colleagues is now facing criminal charges.

In Ukraine, the ex-employee of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi was officially accused of engaging in corrupt activities. He is suspected of acquiring real estate, land, and luxury vehicles worth approximately 400,000 dollars (about 369,000 euros). This information was distributed by the National Anti-Corruption Investigation Bureau.

Reportedly, the criminal in question is Andriy Smyrnov, a previous supervisor in President Zelenskyi's office. Smyrnov was fired in March. As per the anti-corruption agency, the accused acquired two Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen automobiles, two Honda and BMW motorcycles, three parking spaces in Kiev, an apartment in Lviv, and a plot of land in the Transcarpathian region.

To conceal the origin of these possessions, the official transferred most of them to his brother. However, he kept control over the "use and disposition of the entire property." If found guilty, he may face up to ten years in prison.

Zelenskyi ascended to power with a mission to eradicate the widespread corruption and misuse of funds in his country. The Ukrainian government has since made efforts to be more vigilant and investigate cases of corruption, hoping to align with the European Union's values.

Last year, Zelenskyi dismissed various officials due to bribery allegations in the army, which included his defense minister, Oleksiy Resnikov. Just recently, in April, Mykola Solskyj, the Agriculture Minister of Ukraine, became the first acting minister to be charged with corruption.
