European Championships 2024 - A 16-year-old German girl, possibly, was assaulted during a public viewing in Vienna

Two men are accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old German girl during a public viewing event for the European Football Championship in Vienna. The incident occurred on June 25 during the broadcast of the Austria versus Netherlands match, reported the Austrian news agency APA, citing the police. The 16-year-old was with classmates in Vienna for the public viewing.

Visitors alerted the Viennese Police

"During this incident, a conversation developed between two men and the group, during which it is alleged that sexualized actions were taken against the 16-year-old," said a spokesperson for the Landespolizeidirektion.

Visitors to the Public Viewing at Vienna Town Hall Square reportedly alerted the Police. The police spokesperson did not provide further details due to victim protection reasons.

The police are currently investigating a 35-year-old Austrian man based on suspicions of rape. He is alleged to have committed the act with another man. The identity of the second man is still unknown.

The public viewing event for the European Football Championship in Vienna attracted a large number of men, including the two accused of assault. The incident prompted concerned visitors to report the incident to the Vienna Police.
