Awards - "1Live-Krone" award ceremony: Ski Aggu celebrates three times
Three"1Live crowns" for one artist in one evening - that's never happened before and it deserves to be celebrated: Ski Aggu is the big winner at this year's presentation of the coveted music awards.
After the second award ceremony at the Lokschuppen in Bielefeld, there was no stopping him: "Pursue your goals, pursue your dreams. I've done it, you can do it too," the musician in the astronaut outfit shouted to his fans before dancing off the stage throwing his crown into the air.
The rapper with the ski goggles and mullet hairstyle was not only voted best newcomer by the listeners of the young WDR wave. Together with the rap crew 01099, he was also honored for the hip-hop hit "Anders". Ski Aggu also won in the "Best Song" category - with the party hit "Friesenjung", which he also performed together with Otto Waalkes and Joost to kick off the evening. The catchy tune set the tone: This year's Krone Awards will be wild, full of energy and great fun.
An evening with lots of music
The glittering party and award ceremony took place in Bielefeld for the first time. After years in the sprawling Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum, the organizers had wanted to opt for the more intimate club atmosphere of the Lokschuppen in Bielefeld. 1200 guests celebrated themselves and the winners of the evening.
Hip-hop artists prevailed in the top categories: Nina Chuba ("Mangos mit Chili", "Wildberry Lillet") once again snatched the award for best female artist - the third crown in her still young career. The radio audience crowned German rapper Cro ("Crobot", "Easy") as this year's best artist. The musician with the panda mask expressed his thanks via a video message from Bali.
The group Kraftklub came out on top as "Best Live Act". It is now the seventh crown for the indie band from Chemnitz, just like for the musician Casper: he won in the "Best Alternative Song" category with the track "Summer", which he recorded together with Cro. The most popular dance song was presented by newcomer Bennett with "Vois sur ton chemin".
Instead of lengthy laudatory speeches, there was plenty of music again this year: the recently reunited US indie band Gossip fronted by Beth Ditto performed a medley of old classics and the brand new single "Crazy Again". The art-pop band Giant Rooks took to the stage with Paula Hartmann, among others.
Praise for Jan Delay
Two awards were no surprise on the evening: the twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz, who became famous as Tokio Hotel but are now successful with their own podcast or as coaches in the casting show "Voice of Germany", were awarded the crown in the "Best Entertainment" category for their entertainer qualities. In the year in which hip-hop turned 50, the editors also named the nasal all-rounder Jan Delay the winner of the special award.
"He simply took everything from the music buffet," praised presenter Donya Farahani. The fact that hip-hop is so big in Germany today "is also thanks to him", said Farahani. Delay thanked fans, musical companions and the radio station 1Live "because they have always supported new, cool and fresh music", he emphasized.
Westdeutscher Rundfunk calls the Krone "Germany's biggest music prize". The audience award has now been presented for the 24th time - and is therefore older than many of the program's listeners.
At the end of the year, the award ceremony is always a big party for the German music industry. "Everyone is here. It's a bit like a Christmas party," said DJ Felix Jaehn before the show. The nominees are those who are particularly popular at the moment. Listeners are then invited to vote for their favorites online until the day before the awards ceremony.
