- 18-year-old convicted of murder sentenced to 11 years in prison

After an 18-year-old killed his ex-girlfriend of the same age at their shared school near Heidelberg, the Heidelberg Regional Court ruled that he should serve 11 years in prison. The chamber convicted the young man of murder and bodily harm, as a spokesperson announced. The public was excluded from the proceedings.

The 18-year-old had admitted to the killing of his ex-girlfriend in earlier statements, the spokesperson said in court. The Large Youth Chamber found it proven that the German had stabbed the 18-year-old student to death at their shared school in St. Leon-Rot near Heidelberg on January 25. He had stabbed her multiple times with a knife, including in the neck and chest. She died at the scene, in a common room.

The trial ended sooner than expected

The German allegedly fled the scene in a car and caused a serious accident in Lower Saxony's Seesen. Both the perpetrator and another man were injured. Since then, the 18-year-old has been in custody. He was also accused of dangerous bodily harm due to the car accident. However, the court did not comment on this charge in its statement.

The trial ended sooner than expected. Originally, the court had set trial dates until August 15.

The trial was held in camera because a bodily harm incident from November 2023 was also part of the indictment. At that time, the perpetrator had allegedly punched the later murdered student and caused significant injuries. At that time, he was still 17 years old and therefore a minor.

The crime committed by the 18-year-old included not only the murder of his ex-girlfriend but also the infliction of bodily harm on her in a separate incident. Despite the additional charge of dangerous bodily harm due to a car accident, the court focused solely on the murder case in its ruling.
