Ifo: Shortage of materials in German industry eased significantly
The shortage of materials in German industry has recently decreased significantly. According to the Munich-based Ifo Institute, 18.2 percent of companies reported shortages in October, compared to 24 percent in September.
This means that "the pre-crisis level is not far away", explained Klaus Wohlrabe, head of the research institute's surveys. Companies should now "prepare for future bottlenecks, diversify their supply chains and increase their stock levels", he advised.
According to Ifo, the automotive sector is still the most affected by problems - 36.8 percent still reported problems here. However, this was also a significant easing of the situation, previously 53.3 percent. In all other sectors, the figure was below 30 percent in October, in most cases even below 20 percent.
According to the institute's surveys, the paper industry (zero percent) and manufacturers of printed products (1.1 percent) and beverages (1.4 percent) are "virtually worry-free".
