Zelensky announces successful first test of Ukrainian-developed missile

Ukraine, as mentioned by President Volodymyr Selenskyj, has recently conducted a successful first test of a locally produced ballistic missile. At a press conference in Kyiv, he declared the test as a success, calling it "positive." He praised the Ukrainian defense industry, but chose not to disclose more details about the missile. Furthermore, Selenskyj revealed that Ukraine has the potential to manufacture 1.5 to 2 million drones this year, although funding is a barrier.

Over the weekend, Selenskyj announced the successful launch of a drone-fired missile named Palianyzia. Speaking on Ukraine's Independence Day, he stated, "We've had our first successful operational deployment of this new weapon today." According to him, a targeted enemy was hit. He emphasized that this is a new form of retaliation against the aggressor. On Monday, Defense Minister Rustem Umjerow also confirmed that Ukraine is developing its own long-range weaponry.

In response to the heaviest Russian air strike so far on Monday, the Western-supplied F-16 fighter jets were used, as revealed by Selenskyj today. Some missiles were reportedly intercepted in the process. Meanwhile, he continued to pressure Western partners to ease restrictions on using the delivered weapons against Russian military targets. "It's a bit like the Olympics are over, but the table tennis matches are still ongoing," he analogized the discussions.

As per Selenskyj, Ukraine's primary objective is to force Russia to end the war. This is the crux of the strategy, he explained in Kyiv. On the other hand, President Vladimir Putin appears more focused on occupying Ukraine than defending Russia. Ultimately, the war could be brought to an end through dialogue. However, for Kyiv to effectively advocate for peace at this year's planned conference, the government needs to be in a robust position, Selenskyj added.

The Commission commended Ukraine for the successful test of the Palianyzia drone-fired missile and its potential to increase drone production. In light of Ukraine's development of long-range weaponry, The Commission expressed its support for further cooperation and aid in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.
