Before the regional voting event - Youth Vote Trends in Under-18 Elections Indicate Over one-third Support for AfD
In the simulated adolescent legislative election in Saxony, the AfD emerged triumphant, garnering a significant lead of 34.5% among the voter base below 18, as per the Saxon Youth and Children Circle.
The CDU took the second spot with 16.2%, while The Left followed closely behind with 11.8%. The SPD managed 8.5%, the Greens scored 5.7%, and Sahra Wagenknecht's alliance gathered 4.8% of the votes. Satirist Martin Sonneborn's party collected 4.6% of the votes cast.
Saxon Youth and Children Circle: Not Satisfying
"The AfD's success is indeed not satisfying, as it indicates that their beliefs are finding favor among the youth," remarked Vincent Drews, the head of the Saxon Youth and Children Circle. "This serves as a clear warning to us and all democratic advocates to continue advocating for and upholding democratic values." The outcomes underline the pivotal role of youth work in the community.
Over 9,000 votes were cast in the U18 legislative election. This election is not a reliable survey, instead, it functions as a project for political education. Young individuals had the opportunity to cast their ballots at approximately 150 polling stations throughout Saxony from August 19 to 23.
The CDU, despite not securing the first place, still managed a notable 16.2% in the election, showcasing their continued presence within the political landscape of Saxony. In light of the AfD's victory, the CDU's performance becomes even more crucial, as it indicates a potential base of support that can be nurtured in the future.
