Xinhua: Xi promotes closer cooperation at meeting with Lukashenko

China wants to further intensify its cooperation with Belarus. This was stated by President Xi Jinping after a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing, as reported by the official news agency Xinhua. Among other things, Xi called for greater cooperation and coordination at United Nations level, as well as in the areas of business and trade. No details on the war in Ukraine were initially provided.

Lukashenko is one of Russia's most important supporters, which he allowed to invade Ukraine from Belarus in February 2022, among other things. China also maintains close relations with Russia and has never condemned Moscow's actions in Ukraine, even though Beijing explicitly called for peace this year.

Lukashenko already traveled to China for a few days at the end of February. At the time, he and Xi described the friendship between the two countries as indestructible.
