Political gatherings or social events. - Wüst remains open to forming a coalition with BSW at the state level.
Hendrik Wüst, the Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia (CDU), hasn't ruled out the possibility of working with the Left-wing Alliance (Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht) on a state level.
Wüst mentioned that Friedrich Merz, the head of the CDU federal party, had made it clear that cooperation on a federal level was not an option - a stance shared by Wüst. The Left-wing Alliance supported this view by refusing to attend a speech by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the German Bundestag.
However, when it comes to the BSW at a state level, Wüst believes we should "take a close look" at who they represent. In North Rhine-Westphalia specifically, the Wagenknecht party doesn't make much of an impact. The BSW earned 4.4% in the European elections in North Rhine-Westphalia and 6.2% nationwide.
Thomas Geisel, a former Düsseldorf mayor for the SPD, was a candidate for the European Parliament from North Rhine-Westphalia. According to Wüst, there's no need to erect "fundamental walls" because of him. The CDU politician went on to say that the relevance of the BSW for North Rhine-Westphalia is insignificant. "But in the countries where it really matters, our colleagues will make the right decision," Wüst concluded.
