Wolves maul jogger within wildlife sanctuary close to Paris
Near Paris, France, a gripping incident unfolded at a zoo involving a casually dressed woman and three fearsome wolves. A 37-year-old jogger found herself in a life-threatening condition after a brutal attack on the zoo grounds.
According to reports, the woman suffered injuries to her neck, thigh, and back from the voracious bites of three wolves. Maryvonne Caillibotte, the prosecutor of Versailles, confirmed the woman's critical condition.
The unsettling incident took place in the morning at the Thoiry Safari Park, approximately 40 kilometers west of Paris. It appears the woman ventured alone into the "Safari Zone," a section intended for vehicles, as she made her way to the zone after an overnight stay at a safari lodge with her family. In this section, she was unfortunately pounced upon by the trio of wolves. It's uncertain if the woman misjudged her path or if the area lacked clear markings.
The park boasts its lodges in the wolf zone as providing "quiet, solitude, and privacy." They guarantee a "one-of-a-kind, incredibly intimate encounter with the arctic wolves, which can be observed from your living room window." A night's stay ranges between 220 and 760 Euro.
Emergency services reportedly rushed to the scene, where the wolves were relocated, as stated by prosecutor Caillibotte. A source with knowledge of the incident mentioned that the woman had to navigate "safety barriers, a moat, and an electric fence" to reach the area. The investigation into the matter is ongoing by the local police.
The Thoiry Zoo was established back in 1968 by Paul de la Panouse, the owner of a nearby castle. In 2018, the park was sold to a group of investors.
