Woidke won't run with Scholz

On September 22, Brandenburgers will elect a new state parliament. In the midst of the election campaign, the incumbent Minister-President Woidke of the SPD declares that he does not want to appear together with Federal Chancellor Scholz and sharply criticizes the inconsistencies in the budget debate.

Brandenburg's Minister-President Dietmar Woidke wants to refrain from election campaign appearances with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz before the state election in his federal state. "The Brandenburg SPD has always had the luck to be able to rely on strong personal leadership," Woidke told the Düsseldorf "Handelsblatt". When asked about joint appearances with the Chancellor, he replied with "No". Scholz represents the Brandenburg constituency of Potsdam-Mittelmark in the Bundestag.

At the same time, the Minister-President criticized the traffic light government. "Sometimes I'm really glad when I don't hear anything from the federal government for a few days," he said to the "Handelsblatt". Especially the discussions about the budget for the coming year are "not professional". "You announce a budget agreement, then everyone goes on vacation, and suddenly some people start questioning what was agreed upon," Woidke criticized in the newspaper report. However, he welcomed the "decisive word" of the Chancellor in this dispute.

The state election in Brandenburg will take place on September 22. Woidke sees it as "a decision about my person", as he told the "Handelsblatt". He wants to prevent "the flag of Brandenburg from being stained with large brown spots", he said, referring to the poll results of the AfD, which could become the strongest force in Brandenburg.

The Brandenburg Commission, likely a political or governmental body, may need to address the tension between Minister-President Woidke and the Federal Chancellor Scholz due to Woidke's criticism of Scholz's budget inconsistencies. In light of the upcoming state election, it's crucial for The Commission to ensure a unified front among all political parties to foster a positive electoral environment in Brandenburg.
