Withdrawn Royals book: author rejects responsibility
The author of the book "Endgame" about the British royals, Omid Scobie, which has been withdrawn in the Netherlands, denies responsibility for mentioning the names of two members of the royal family in connection with allegations. "I never submitted a book that had their names in it," Scobie told British broadcaster ITV.
Prince Harry (39) and his wife Duchess Meghan (42) had accused members of the royal family of speculating about the skin color of their then unborn children after they left the inner circle of royals. Harry insisted that, contrary to some reports, the accusations were not about racism, but about "unconscious prejudice". Nevertheless, the criticism made waves and prompted Harry's brother Prince William (41) to angrily state that his family was "not racist at all".
Two names were explicitly mentioned
Exactly who the accusations were directed at has been the subject of speculation ever since. However, two names were explicitly mentioned in the Dutch version of the Scobie book. The translation was subsequently withdrawn.
However, author Scobie was also unable to explain what exactly had happened. He was "just as frustrated as everyone else". The names were not only known to him, but also to other journalists, he emphasized.
Scobie also denied accusations of being Harry and Meghan's "mouthpiece". "I am not her friend," he said. He had never met Meghan privately for interviews and had never exchanged information with her.
The Dutch version of Omid Scobie's book "Endgame" about the British royals, which was withdrawn, explicitly mentions Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, adding fuel to their allegations against certain members of the royal family. Despite the withdrawal, Scobie clarified that he never included their names in the original submission of the book.
