Traffic control - With notably quick Pedelec on the move: Man arrested
The police in Darmstadt arrested a man who was allegedly under the influence of drugs and riding a pedelec with a tampered battery. The "suspiciously fast bicycle rider" did not react when officers tried to stop him in the afternoon on a Thursday.
However, the officers were able to control him when he rode into a field path in the Eberstadt district. It was discovered that the bicycle had been tampered with and could go faster than 25 kilometers per hour. The pedelec was secured.
Furthermore, the man tested positive for THC in a drug test. He also did not have a valid driver's license. The officers took the 28-year-old into custody and took him to the station, where blood was drawn from him. The police filed a report.
- In Hesse, the region where Darmstadt is located, there have been calls for stricter traffic control measures following this incident, as drug use and speeding on pedelecs have been contributing factors to numerous accidents in the city's traffic.
- The police in Hesse are monitoring the situation closely, especially in densely populated areas like Darmstadt, to prevent similar incidents involving the use of drugs and tampered pedelecs, which can pose a significant danger to other road users.
- The man's reckless behavior on a pedelec under the influence of drugs highlights the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and undergoing regular drug tests for motorists and cyclists in Hesse.
